Tokyo → Hida-Furukawa → Tokyo
Use JR and subway in Tokyo. Allow around 4 h 30 min by rail from Tokyo to Hida-Furukawa, including connections. Check trains and fares for your date.
08:30–11:00 · Yotsuya → Suga stairs → Shinanomachi footbridge. Start with your favourite scenes and leave time for photos. These are suggested planning times, not bookings or measured walking times. Keep the stairs and residential entrances clear at Suga.
11:00–15:00 · JR from Shinanomachi to Shinjuku, a lunch break, then south exit (Lumine 2) → police-station crossing → Shintoshin footbridge. La Bohème is an optional detour towards Shinjuku Gyoen: if you choose it, shorten the walk rather than adding a second meal.
From 15:00 · Walk to Tochōmae and take the Oedo line to Roppongi. Tokyo City View is the main visit: allow 1–2 h and follow your ticket time. The National Art Center is optional and normally closes at 18:00; fit it before the observation deck only if time allows. Return to Shinjuku for the night. In rain or poor visibility, keep the scene walk and decide whether the paid deck is worthwhile.
the meeting with Okudera: use the Akasaka exit (Marunouchi line)
the final scene · ~10 min walk from Yotsuya
the footbridge of both farewells
The model for Taki’s workplace. Optional meal detour; check the menu and book if you want a table. Minimum spend ¥1,100 per person after 17:00 and all day on weekends and holidays; use the meal allowance, rather than adding an admission fee.
purchases extra
«Tokyo!»: the pavement opposite Lumine 2
the round traffic light from the time-lapse; stay off the road
the crossing in the snow
free building access; café purchases extra. Closed Tuesdays, or the next working day when Tuesday is a holiday
budget reference: ¥2,200 online for an adult; price and accessible areas depend on the date
Calculated IC journeys: JR Shinanomachi–Shinjuku ¥155 + Toei Oedo Tochōmae–Roppongi ¥220 = ¥375. Walk between the sightseeing stops. Use the local transport allowance for the return to Shinjuku and access to Tokyo Station; allow more if you change the route.
Morning · Shinjuku → Tokyo Station → Nagoya → Hida-Furukawa. The rail reference from Tokyo is around 4 h 30 min; allow a 5–6 h block from your lodging for station access, the connection and food. This is a planning allowance. Book a workable connection and confirm that your Hida serves Hida-Furukawa.
Afternoon · Leave your luggage, confirm dinner arrangements and take a relaxed walk in central Hida-Furukawa. Keep the library for tomorrow; if it will be closed tomorrow and is open today, bring it forward before the 17:00 photography cutoff. Both nights are in Hida-Furukawa. Staying in Takayama requires additional travel arrangements and fares.

Morning · Hida-Furukawa Station → library → centre and lunch. The city cites 09:57 for two trains together, based on August 2026 information: confirm locally and do not treat it as guaranteed. The library is about a 7-minute walk from the station; ask permission before taking photos and finish photography before 17:00.
Afternoon · Keta Wakamiya and back to the centre. Allow half a day for the essential loop with breaks; the shrine is about a 14–15-minute walk from the station and has stairs. If you need step-free access, check before leaving. Add Ochiai only with a planned round trip; otherwise enjoy the town at a relaxed pace.
Hida’s official route gives an approximately 7-minute walk between the library and station. The track footbridge is a viewing point; stay in public areas and follow railway instructions.
request permission at the desk before taking photos; photography until 17:00. Check the opening calendar
the stairs where Taki asks about his sketch · ~15 min walk from the station
optional detour: arrange the outward and return journey before leaving; taxi or bus fares are not separately budgeted
Hida-Furukawa → Nagoya → Tokyo Station. Book the return first and keep a free morning for another photo or a walk near your lodging. Again allow around 4 h 30 min by rail plus connection margin. Do not add Ochiai before the return or plan a tight international flight connection. Budget any following night in Tokyo separately.

The budget is an estimate, not a booking offer. Lodging depends on dates and occupancy; meals and extras are allowances. Optional detours are not separately budgeted.
Tokyo follows Taki’s scenes; Hida-Furukawa follows the search for Mitsuha’s town. Itomori is fictional: this trip connects real places that inspired the film. The main plan has 10 stops and three optional additions, without a car.
Includes return trains via Nagoya, two calculated urban journeys in Tokyo, three nights, Tokyo City View and a daily allowance for meals and other local expenses. That allowance must also cover Roppongi–Shinjuku and access to Tokyo Station. Compare individual tickets and passes for your whole trip: this budget does not assume a JR Pass.
Lodging is a per-person allowance, not a booking: confirm occupancy, taxes, meals and cancellation terms. Flights, extra nights, shopping and transport to Ochiai are excluded. For a slower 5-day trip, split Tokyo into two days and add one night, one day of meals and extra travel; the displayed total covers 4 days.
