Anime in Hyōgo

The Hankyu station at the heart of the series: the SOS Brigade's meeting point for its 'city patrols' is the north exit. The square, cafés and surrounding streets appear faithfully traced in the anime.

The public high school on the Kōyōen hillside where Nagaru Tanigawa studied is the model for Kyon and Haruhi's North High, including the famous slope they climb every morning. It is a working school: view from outside without disturbing.

The little terminus of the Kōyō Line, the closest station to the school: the walk climbing from here towards North High, with its residential streets and slopes, is one of the most-walked pilgrimage routes among fans.

The shopping complex by the station's north exit houses the Kitaguchi municipal library, where Kyon gets Yuki Nagato her library card in one of the series' most remembered (and, in Endless Eight, most repeated) moments.

The great Kobe station where the film opens: a starving Seita collapses against a pillar. The frame of the tragedy the story tells in flashback.

The Nishinomiya pond beside which Seita and Setsuko set up their shelter after leaving their aunt's home. Takahata set much of the film here to avoid clashing with Nosaka's real memories.

The Shukugawa river and district, which the siblings reach by Hankyū train from Kobe. Its cherry-lined banks are one of the film's recognizable landscapes.

The official Naruto area of Nijigen no Mori park on Awaji Island: it recreates the Hidden Leaf Village with the giant Hokage Rock, physical ninja missions and nighttime projection mapping. The largest real-world Naruto experience.

A Shin-chan themed area in the Nijigen no Mori park on Awaji Island (Hyōgo), opened in 2022. It has adventure courses, ziplines and attractions themed around 'Appare! The Great Sengoku Adventure'. It is not a scene from the series but an official park dedicated to its world; it shares the grounds with the Naruto zone.

A hillside botanical garden above Kobe, reached by ropeway from Shin-Kobe Station. It appears in the Kobe leg of the journey, with its panoramic city views and greenhouse, during one of the film's quieter, more tender moments.
